Mayo paid penalty to Galway

A BUMPER crowd were certainly given full value for money on Sunday afternoon as Barry McHugh and Maghnus Breathnach proved to be the heroes for Galway, with McHugh’s late late goal salvaging an unlikely draw for the home side before Breathnach saved penalties from both Diarmuid O’Connor and Andy Moran to help book his side’s place in the FBD final.
On a day when the controversial handpass rule flummoxed both players and officials on occasions, Galway substitute Michael Daly played a vital part in the comeback, scoring his side’s final point of the day before delivering a superbly accurate long ball into his clubmate McHugh with almost four minutes of injury-time played.
