Dream team selections

GALWAY’S best and brightest club footballers this year were honoured in front of a packed house at the annual Claregalway Hotel ‘Dream Team’ Awards banquet on Friday evening. Special guest on the night was record-breaking Cork dual star Rena Buckley, who has amassed 18 All-Ireland senior medals over the course of a glittering career in both ladies football and camogie.
The prestigious Hall of Fame Award went to one of Galway’s greatest ever footballers, Sean Óg de Paor. A two-time All-Ireland winner with Galway in 1998 and 2001, as well as a two-time All-Star, the stylish wing-back also captained UCG to Sigerson Cup glory in 1992, and played a central role in An Cheathrú Rua’s historic Galway Senior Football Championship success four years later.
Corofin’s six in-a-row winning Galway senior football champions were rewarded with six places on this year’s Senior Football Championship ‘Dream Team’, including Gary Sice who was named ‘Player of the Year’ at senior level.
