Wexford stand between U-21 hurlers and Leinster crown

HISTORY could in the offing for the Galway U-21 hurlers at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise this evening (Wednesday) as they set their sights on a first-ever Leinster title at the grade against Wexford (throw-in: 7.30pm).

With two championship wins under their belt against Offaly and Kilkenny, Tony Ward's team have ticked all the necessary boxes so far and backboned by All-Ireland minor winners of 2015 and '17, come in as favourites to complete what could be the first leg of a novel Leinster double in the space of four days.
Down south, Tipperary and Cork contest the Munster U-21 final at the same time and regardless of the outcomes in O'Moore Park and Páirc Uí Chaoimh, hurling into August is guaranteed for all four counties in the All-Ireland race. This year's semi-finals pit the Leinster champions against the Munster runners-up, and vice-versa.
Along with Antrim, Galway joined Leinster for the first time and negotiated the two hurdles placed in their way. Offaly were soundly beaten (1-20 to 0-8) before the acid test came against Kilkenny, three years on from their epic drawn and replayed All-Ireland minor semi-finals.
