Parking fines -- some were quashed.

230 parking fines quashed

NO tax displayed, parking on double yellow lines and not having a parking ticket were the big offenders of motorists in towns around the county last year who together clocked up just over €51,000 in parking fines.
Revenue from parking fines issued by Galway County Council tumbled by just over €9,000 last year after a sudden jump in income in 2017. It appears that despite warnings and signs hundreds of motorists continue to flout the law and insist on taking the chance and park where they aren’t supposed to.
Figures obtained by The Tuam Herald show that the most common on-the-spot fines handed out were those with a €40 penalty. However, 69 motorists faced the hefty fine of €150 after they were caught parking in a disabled person’s parking bay without a valid permit.
But human error is possible and last year 235 motorists made complaints or appealed their fines and these were subsequently cancelled.
