Dog fouling is a growing problem.

Only four fines for dog fouling in two years

JUST four fines were issued in relation to dog fouling in the whole of County Galway in 2017 and 2018 combined.
Figures obtained through the Freedom of Information Act have revealed that one fine was issued throughout 2017 and three in 2018, amounting to just €600 in total.
Dog fouling remains a headache for every local authority in the country. The figures relating to enforcement are not unique to Galway and are in fact comparable nationwide.
Cllr Sean Cunniffe says the problem is not a new one for Tuam or any other town in Galway, but is regrettable nonetheless. He puts problems with enforcing law down to a lack of resources and in particular the workload of the community warden.
