ALL-IRELAND glory is being celebrated in Abbeyknockmoy with a group of set dancers from the area securing the All-Ireland Scor Na nÓg title at the weekend.
The hours of practising invested by this energetic young group of dancers has earned its reward and the Royal Theatre in Castlebar was certainly their Croke Park on Saturday.
Abbeyknockmoy Set Dancers won their first Scór title in 1999 and now proudly hold six All-Ireland Scor titles, two at U-17 level and four at over-17. This recent success on the 50th anniversary of Scór is particularly poignant for trainer Marie Moran Greaney, who has been teaching set dancing for 25 years.
Crowds in the region of 1,800 people attended the finals at the weekend with competitors in a range of categories. Galway represented Connacht in three of the eight disciplines – Set Dancing, Singing and Music.
The delight of the judges’ decision was clearly seen on the faces of the winning team members of Lauren Kelly, Emma Harte Geasley, Emily Greaney, Laura Duggan, Nathan Conway, Evan Loughnane, Kevin Brogan and Cathal Fahy.
