Dr Mark Ryan

Forgotten Fenian to be commemorated in his native Kilconly

ONE of the forgotten names from the ill-fated Fenian Rebellion of 1867, Dr Mark Ryan, also a close associate of Davitt and Parnell, and later still of Pearse and McDermott before the 1916 Rising, will be commemorated in his native Kilconly this Saturday, September 8.
A plaque in his memory will be unveiled at the Ryan family grave where the headstone, erected by Dr Ryan over his parents, and inscribed in Irish, was recently restored by a historical committee in his home parish.
