From The Tuam Herald to The Sunday Game

MICHAEL Lyster will host his final edition of The Sunday Game on RTE this afternoon for the All-Ireland Football final.

Michael began his journalism career with The Tuam Herald in the 1970s, went to St Jarlath’s College, Tuam and spent much of his youth in Barnaderg.

He left The Tuam Herald in the late 1970s to join RTE

In June 2015 he suffered sudden heart failure but made a full recovery. He was saved by his wife Anne administering CPR and has highlighted how important it is for people to learn this life-saving skill.

Michael has fond memories of his time with The Tuam Herald and learning his journalism skills from the then editor Jarlath Burke.

”You were taught the fundamentals from the very beginning. Anything substandard, anything questionable, was sent back. I was covering everything from courts to county councils to murder cases,” he told The Irish Independent last year.

Everyone at The Tuam Herald wishes Michael the very best in the future.
