Cllrs seek guarantees on Tuam’s ‘fast-track’ housing plan

PLANS to build 124 houses in Tuam have been supported by members of the town’s Municipal District Council who have described the development as very welcome for the region.

The application by Arlum Ltd, which has previously developed the Palace Fields estate in the town, concerns a site at Halfstraddle on the Ballygaddy Road and has been made under the government’s Strategic Housing Development Regulations.
These are a temporary measure designed to fast-track large housing developments throughout the country by removing local authorities from the decision-making process. An Bord Pleanála is due to deliver its ruling on the application in April.
