Brendan Grace had strong links with Galway

IMAGINE the scene on a sunny evening in Salthill at an open-air concert as the sun is slowly setting over Galway Bay and a lone entertainer on stage, occasionally using his guitar, has the thousands of fans spellbound. It’s not Ed Sheerin, but Brendan Grace, who did it all 32 years earlier than Ed back in 1986 at the Harp Lager Festival on the seafront.
Tuam, Portumna where he had a pub, Loughrea, Ballinasloe, a marquee in Kilconly or elsewhere, Galway City and Salthill were among the places in this county where the late Brendan loved to entertain his adoring fans.
Walking around Tuam and borrowing a wheelbarrow from a council workman to pose for a photo at Tuam Town Hall or posing for pictures with the family of the McCabes who had an electrical and record shop on Bishop Street at the time are among some early memories of Brendan in Tuam.
