Headford lace will go on show in US museum

A PIECE of Headford Lace which will be on display in a museum in Philadelphia, USA, was one of the items on display in Castlehacket House, near Tuam, on Sunday.
The piece by Norma Owens will be part of a special exhibition on the career of Richard St George from Headford, an officer in the British Army during the American War of Independence.
The exhibition is titled “Cost of Revolution: the life and death of an Irish soldier — Richard St George Mansergh St George (c 1752-1798) of Headford Castle” in the Museum of the American Revolution, Philadelphia and will run from September 2019 to February 2020.
A portrait of Richard St George hangs close to that of Daniel O’Connell in the National Gallery in Dublin.
