Wedding celebrations called to a halt as fight leads to venue clear-out
A WEDDING celebration had to be abandoned in Tuam town centre this week when a fight broke out among the guests. The occasion was being celebrated at the Source nightclub on Vicar Street on Monday evening, when a row broke out between two families. Gardai were called and the proprietor of the venue, Paul O'Grady, closed the bar, bringing the festivities to an end. While no one was seriously injured in the incident, it is understood many of the guests, who are from the Traveller community, continued their celebrations at another venue in the town.[private] 'The rules surrounding our agreement to host such occasions is that if there is any sign of trouble, the party must leave the premises and that is what happened here on Monday evening,' said Paul. 'Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident which amounted to the settling of a few scores and did not involve the bridal party itself. 'But we won't tolerate such behaviour under any circumstances so the decision was made to close the bar, remove the decorations and the entire party had left the premises by 9pm.' No one was available for comment at Tuam Garda Station but Mr O'Grady said the incident would not deter him from hosting future events. 'This was an isolated incident and you have to take the good with the bad, so it won't deter us from taking similar bookings in the future,' he said.[/private]
