Glen' writers launch their first book

A GLENAMADDY-based group of writers are set to launch their first collection of writings about growing up in rural Ireland.[private] The Blackberry Writers' Group is a collective of Co Galway writers who got together after replying to a notice calling for potential writers and poets in the district notes of The Tuam Herald earlier this year. Member Ann Martyn explains that the group managed to get an anthology of writing and poetry together sooner than anticipated and the result is The Three Rs - Rhyme, Rhythm, Reminiscence, which is to be officially launched this week. The book contains many stories and poems about growing up in the west of Ireland throughout the last 60 years and documents the changing patterns of life in the area during that time. The book also features a first-hand account of a childhood evacuation in the English midlands during World War Two from Englishwoman Patricia Doona, who has been living in Glenamaddy for the past number of years. Well-known rural activist and Roscommon TD Luke â€ËœMing' Flanagan is to launch the book at 8pm on Friday July 1 in the Glenamaddy library.[/private]
