Williamstown boy doing well at home following swim pool incident
By JACQUELINE HOGGE THE mother of a seven-year-old boy involved in a serious incident in Tuam Swimming Pool has said her son is recovering at home after being in a coma following the accident last month. Caroline Hussey's son Adam was found at the bottom of the pool during a busy public swimming session at the Kingfisher complex in the Palace Grounds on Sunday, June 17.[private] He was brought to the surface by a member of the public and given first aid before being taken to hospital in Galway. He was later transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin where he remained in a coma for several days. However, he was discharged in time for the final day of term at Williamstown National School, where he is going into second class in September. He has spent the past few weeks recovering at home with his mother who says she will forever be grateful for the support of family, friends and the wider community. 'I can't thank people enough for the support and prayers Adam and I received in our time of trouble,' said Caroline. 'I am happy to say Adam is doing well now and I would like to thank the people who were involved in saving his life. Words are powerless to express my gratitude to everyone from the members of the ambulance service to the gardaàwho were involved in helping Adam. 'A special thank you to the staff at University College Hospital Galway and Temple Street Children's Hospital Dublin for the phenomenal support and care of Adam. You will forever be in my heart for bringing my son back to me.' Galway County Council owns the public swimming pool and leisure centre that has been operated and managed by Kingfisher Club since 2009. Council officials have described the incident as a tragic accident but parents and other users of the pool are angry that no official investigation has taken place into how the boy was not rescued from the water when he first got into difficulty. No one from Kingfisher Club was willing to comment when contacted by The Tuam Herald.[/private]
