Beware of strange callers

GARDAI in Tuam are warning householders, especially those in rural areas, to be very vigilant if strangers call to their homes and under no circumstances should they be allowed in unless they know who the callers are. At the weekend the Gardai were alerted to a number of men calling to a house in the Cortoon area. Two of the men are alleged to have spent some time in the house talking to one of the occupants and it is thought that there may have been two more in a car outside.[private] Nothing was reported to have been taken during the incident, which was later reported by a family member to the Gardai. Sergeant Martin Connor of Tuam Gardai is appealing to people who see anyone acting suspiciously in any area, but in particular in more isolated rural villages, to phone the Gardai. 'Don't let anyone into your home unless you are sure of who they are and note the registration numbers of any cars that you may be suspicious of,' says Sgt Connor.[/private]
