Former Mercy student wins JP McManus bursary

ACADEMIC excellence has brought financial support for one past pupil of the Mercy Secondary School Tuam in the form of a prestigious JP McManus bursary. [private] The scheme was initiated by the Limerick multi-millionaire in 2007 following a donation of €30m for the provision of third-level education scholarships to high achieving students. This is the fourth year of the programme that is spread on a county-by-county basis throughout the island of Ireland. Students from Athenry, Dunmore, Mountbellew and Tuam are among those to benefit from this year's scholarships, which are worth €6,700 per annum. Caitlin achieved 550 points in her Leaving Cert, securing a hat-trick of A1s in English, Irish and French. She is now in First Arts in NUI Galway where she is studying French, Economics, Italian and Sociology and Politics. [/private]
