Septic tank regulation meetings

COUNCILLOR Sean Canney is organising  information meetings in relation to the  legislation for the regulation of septic tanks. The Water Services (Amendment) Bill 2011has been passed into law by Government and the septic tanks legislation will have major implications for all dwellings which are serviced by septic tanks. [private] The Minister is to publish the regulations relating to the new bill and this will address the issue of standards. Three issues There are three issues, according to Cllr Canney that need to be addressed in relation to the new bill: â€Â¢ Why impose a registration charge when the Minister has stated that the registration process will not cost anything to the state? â€Â¢ Why is there a need to re register again after five years? â€Â¢ The provision of a grant system to fund remedial work for septic tanks that are found to be sub standard. Cllr Canney will be holding a series of meetings at the following venues â€Â¢ Headford on Friday, March 2 at the Anglers Rest Hotel. â€Â¢ Abbeyknockmoy on Monday, March 5 at O'Donohue's Bar â€Â¢ Dunmore, Wednesday, March 7 at the Community Centre. â€Â¢ Tuam on Friday, March 9 at the Corralea Court Hotel.                                                                     [/private]
