Soup for thought
GORTA, Ireland's longest established overseas development agency, has launched Soup for Life, which takes place over National Soup Week, running from April 8 to 15. Soup for Life encourages people across Galway to organise a fun event where they can share cooking tips and their favourite soup with family and friends or colleagues at work or in their local club. Sip, swig or slurp your way through some nutritious soup while raising awareness of the chronic issue of world hunger and giving much needed support to those in need. The event also aims to find out Ireland's favourite soup. What flavours tickle the tastebuds of the people of Galway? Maybe tasty tomato is the one that pleases their palate, or they may prefer to give venerable vegetable a vote. Brian Hanratty, CEO of Gorta explained, 'Soup is extremely nutritious and has an important place in our history, as it played a key role in fighting hunger during An Gorta Mór. Soup for Life highlights the very real problem of hunger in the world today. Gorta is committed to finding solutions to this problem and all funds raised during this campaign will go directly to our programmes in Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.'
