Moylough woman one of three new consultants at UHG

ONE of three new consultants recently appointed at Galway University Hospitals (GUH) is Dr Ruth Gilmore, Consultant Haematologist, who is a native of Moylough. The other two new consultants are Barna native Ms Orla Young, Consultant Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon and Ms Deirdre Jones, Consultant Plastic Surgeon who is from Tulsk in Co Roscommon. [private] Dr Ruth Gilmore graduated from NUI Galway in 1998. Dr Gilmore, who has a special interest in Coagulation, completed her postgraduate Haematology training in Ireland and undertook a fellowship in Coagulation studies at the National Centre for Hereditary Coagulation Disorders at St James's Hospital, Dublin. 'I am delighted to join the team at Galway University Hospitals. My particular areas of interest include patients with bleeding and clotting disorders as well as Paediatrics and Obstetric Haematology and I look forward to working closely with my colleagues in the hospital to further develop these services,' says Dr Gilmore. Barna native Orla Young graduated from NUI Galway in 1999 and went on to train in General Surgery. She returns to Galway from the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, Mayo Clinic, Arizona, where her work focused on Laser Microsurgery in Head and Neck Cancer. 'I am particularly interested in the developing a service to provide laser surgery in early head and neck cancer, in GUH for the West of Ireland,' she says. Deirdre Jones is also a graduate of NUI Galway, and worked exclusively in the area of cancer reconstruction in New York. [/private]
