International year of biodiversity to be celebrated in Glinsk
SINCE 1995, Glinsk Community Council have been working with various agencies and, in particular, with Galway County Council on the development of Glinsk Heritage Park. Over €300,000 has been spent on the project to date, which is now open to the public and gaining a reputation as an ideal place to go for a quiet, peaceful, family stroll. The 'International Year of Biodiversity' will be marked by a special Heritage Day at the park on November 6. Biodiversity is a combination of the words biology and diversity and within Glinsk Heritage Park, there is a huge variety of trees to be explored and bird and animal life is increasing all the time, with the very colourful Jay being the latest bird to take up residence in the park. Throughout the day there will be opportunities to explore the flora and fauna of the park with well-known experts available to guide you. There will be lots of activities for young ÂÂpeople from pond dipping, to face-painting, to Heritage art. While there will be a range of visiting agencies providing information, local craftspeople are also being invited to to display their goods or to demonstrate traditional crafts. Any craftsperson who would like to book a stall, can contact any member of Glinsk Community Council.
