Maths Week was fun in the Mercy

A TEACHER from Dunmore is among 36 recipients nationally who between them received bursaries totalling €123,000 as part of the Kieran O'Driscoll Memorial Bursary Awards. This is The Teaching Council's fourth scheme of research bursaries and it has been dedicated to the memory of the late Kieran O'Driscoll, a former member of The Teaching Council who died in March. The Teaching Council is the regulatory body which promotes teaching as a profession and protects standards in teaching.  Since its establishment in 2006, The Teaching Council has awarded 106 research bursaries amounting to almost €355,000. Gareth Burns from Dunmore teaches in St. Paul's National School, Ratoath, Co Meath. He received a bursary to support his research entitled â€ËœMaking a Difference - What it Means for Early Career Teachers Working in Designated Disadvantaged Schools'. Gareth commented that 'Being awarded this research bursary will not only greatly assist my research project, but it also reaffirms the importance of supporting early career teachers working in designated disadvantaged primary schools.'
