Tran Year Diary - Great experiences for Dunmore TYs
THE TRANSITION Year students of Dunmore Community School have been back at school for more than one month now, but already have had many great experiences. [private] On September 13 we ventured to Boda Borg Adventure Centre in Lough Key, Boyle. Boda Borg is a new and innovative idea from Norway, which involves three rooms and a quest. Each room is a puzzle in itself and must be solved without any clues or instructions in order to proceed to the next room in the quest, but also there is a time constraint of two minutes. What a challenge! We all had a fantastic time and enjoyed ourselves immensely. It was a great team-building exercise to begin the new school year. On September 28 and 29, the TYs headed off on another adventure â€â€ this time to Petersburg, a water-activity centre. On arrival, we were taken by boat to an island where we took part in a physically demanding obstacle course. Numerous falls in the muddy water jump added some humour to the exhausting course! Next up was gorge walking. This involved walking in a small stream against the current, meeting four small waterfalls along the way. At each waterfall, we had the opportunity to jump off a cliff into the deep plunge pool beneath the waterfall. An amazing time was had by all as the group jumped, flipped and belly-flopped off the cliffs! A campfire, hot chocolate and biscuits brought an excellent day to an end. On October 4, we journeyed to the Black Box theatre in Galway. We saw An Triail, a controversial play written by Máiréad NàGhráda. The play lasted an hour and we all found it very interesting. After the play, we had a brilliant time bowling in the leisure centre across from the theatre. When lunch was finished, we headed out to Salthill beach where we carried out our geography field study. We TYs are having a brilliant time so far and cannot wait for the rest of the year! [/private]
