Hold up in Moylough grotto road repair as NRA takes project over from Co Council

PLANS by Galway Co Council to resurface a dangerous stretch of road near Moylough Grotto were postponed last Thursday at the request of the National Roads Authority (NRA) which is to examine the possibility of doing a more extensive scheme of improvements there.[private] Director of Services Frank Gilmore says that while the NRA have not yet decided how extensive the road improvements to this stretch of the N63 will be it is understood that the roads authority will come up with their plan in the next few weeks. As there have been 12 crashes in the vicinity of the Moylough Grotto junction in the past eight months, local Cllr Michael Connolly has been lobbying Galway Co Council for action to make this stretch of road safer. â€Å“We were ready to move on a resurfacing scheme for that section of the road last Thursday when the NRA indicated that more extensive work may be required,â€Â says Frank Gilmore. Cllr Connolly says the NRA should ensure that the work is carried out quickly before there is a fatality at this junction. â€Å“It is all very well for the NRA to now say that they are going to carry out the work themselves, but I will be keeping up the pressure to ensure that it is done as a matter of urgency,â€Â he concluded.
