Improvement in condition of Tuam assault victim

THERE has been a slight improvement in the condition of 22-year-old Shane Grogan who was seriously injured in an assault in Tuam in the early hours of Sunday week (August 5). Shane was taken off sedation medication earlier this week and he remains in a comfortable and stable condition in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.[private] Masses were offered for his full recovery over the past week in Tuam, Kilconly and at other Churches, and his family have thanked everybody for their continuing prayers and good wishes. Last week he underwent two rounds of surgery at the Dublin hospital for head injuries sustained in the incident at Fairgreen, Tuam. Members of his family have been at Beaumont Hospital since he was taken there, after his injuries were initially assessed at UHG. Meanwhile 18-year-old Shane Byrne of no fixed address, but originally from Dublin, who was remanded in custody after being charged with assault causing harm to Shane Grogan at a special sitting of Galway Court on Monday August 6, was again remanded in custody at the weekend. He appeared at Harristown Court last Friday (August 10) and was again remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison. He is due to appear again before Harristown Court this Friday.[/private]
