Railings and roof slates to be reinstated with restoration of Miller's Cottage
BYâ€Ë†JACQUELINEâ€Ë†HOGGE PLANS to reinstate one of Tuam's most picturesque landmarks are under way with a planning application to reconstruct the Miller's Cottage alongside the town's inner relief road. A corner of the original building at Shop Street Bridge was removed to allow for the town's newest road to be built earlier this year.[private] 'We hope that once the planning process is complete, work can commence and the entire project should be completed within two months. Mr O'Toole is eager for the work to be carried out as quickly as possible so hopefully the planning application will be successful and we can restore the area, as was always intended.' The kiosk to be housed in the cottage will serve as an information point for visitors to the town. Pat Fahy of Tuam Tidy Towns said he was happy with the proposed work and said by going through the planning process, it would make the project clearer for all involved. 'We could have done this quicker had we not applied for planning permission but I believe it was the correct thing to do as it makes the whole process a lot clearer,' he said. 'Mr O'Toole is proposing to put back what was there, with the original features restored, so I'm happy with that and I think the rest of the town will be too. 'Hopefully, the planning application will be successful and once a contractor is appointed work can get under way.' [/private]
