Big Ball vs the Small Ball in Tuam on Friday evening

By JIM CARNEY 'THE SMALL BALL is your only man!' â€â€ as the Saw Doctors sang in their rousing tribute to the legendary Johnny Kilkelly of Tuam, and his lifelong love of hurling. Now comes a new way to settle the argument: football or hurling? Tuam hurlers and some legendary names in Gaelic football are combining their talents for a special match at the Stars grounds, Dublin Road, at 8.00 o'clock on Friday, under lights, and it's for a great cause: Cystic Fibrosis research and care. It's hoped that the response from the public will be generous. It'll be football for 30 minutes and hurling for the second half. In action will be men proud to be known from now on as 'dual stars'. All-Ireland football heroes of 1998 and 2001 such as Jarlath Fallon and Derek Savage, hurling legends Pete Finnerty and Derek Hayes, who are doing great work this week promoting this fundraiser, and â€â€ exclusively â€â€ the reunion of perhaps the greatest half-back line in the history of hurling: Finnerty, Keady and McInerney. Yes, Tony and Gerry are planning to be there to support Pete, John C. Davin and Michael Hehir of Tuam Hurling Club, and the other organisers. Referee is Charlie Ward who has promised to go easy on the yellow and red cards.
