A lot to play for in Football Leagues
GALWAY Football Board are approaching the business end of their two Senior Leagues. In the premier competition (Division 1A) Corofin have qualified for the final and the other final place is between Milltown and Tuam Stars.â€Â¨In the remaining round, this weekend, Milltown will be at home to Cortoon Shamrocks and Tuam Stars at home to An Cheathrú Rua; on Saturday; both games at 3.00 p.m. From eight games played, Milltown are on 12 points and Tuam Stars eleven. In the relegation zone are newly crowned County champions Salthill-Knocknacarra, Barna, Leitir Mór and Cortoon Shamrocks, while Caherlistrane and An Cheathrú Rua are just above the danger zone. In Division 1B three teams are in contention for the two final places: Kilconly, MÃÂcheál Breathnachs and St James's and these three clubs will be promoted to Division 1A for 2013. St James' play MÃÂcheál Breathnachs in their final group game. It's still all to play for at the other end of the 1B table, involving Carna-Cashel, Claregalway, Moycullen, Kilkerrin-Clonberne, Monivea-Abbey and Annaghdown. Three of those teams will be relegated to the Division 2A League for 2013. Last weekend, Cárna-Caiseal did themselves a huge favour with a four-point win over St James's, while Kilkerrin-Clonberne did likewise with a big win over Claregalway. Division 2A. Caltra and Menlough have qualified for the final and are promoted, with the third promotion spot between Oughterard, Dunmore MacHales and St Michael's.â€Â¨Oughterard play St Michael's in their final group game.â€Â¨Headford, Oileáin ÃÂrann and Williamstown have been relegated to Division 2B for 2013. Division 2B: Clonbur have qualified for the final and are promoted to Division 2A, with the other final place and the other promotion tickets between Clifden, An Spidéal and Ballinasloe. There is one outstanding group game, Clifden vs Ballinasloe. The two teams relegated from this division are Caherlistrane and Milltown. See Galway GAA website for League tables. CHAMPIONSHIPS: I.F.C. winners Cárna-Caiseal are promoted to the Senior grade for 2013. Claregalway and Killanin will play in the Intermediate Championship next year. County Junior (A) champions Ballinasloe are promoted to the Intermediate grade for 2013, with Caherlistrane's second team dropping to Junior.
