Tuam student hopes doodle will be third time lucky

By SIOBHÃÂN HOLLIMAN ONE creative Tuam student is hoping it will be third time lucky for her entry in the Doodle for Google competition. Pauline Osikoya is a second year pupil at the Mercy Secondary school in Tuam and for the third year in a row, her doodle has made it to the final. The artistic 14-year-old is receiving great support from her classmates and school but she is also appealing for the local community to help out by voting for her entry. The theme for this yearâ€â„¢s competition is â€Å“My invention ...â€Â and Paulineâ€â„¢s doodle is entitled â€Å“Reminiscing in the 21st centuryâ€Â.[private] â€Å“Itâ€â„¢s based around a microchip that would bring your favourite memories to life,â€Â explains Pauline. The smiling student is mad about art and her passion for drawing is one of the reasons she has entered the competition. Paulineâ€â„¢s colourful doodle shows an elderly lady thinking about a happy day in her childhood when she was with a friend in the garden. â€Å“When you think of something good, the chip would play a memory for you,â€Â explains Pauline, who sees her invention aspiration as a way of showing future generations past memories of older relatives or friends. Members of the public have until March 4 to cast their vote and Pauline is hoping to gather as many local votes as possible. Pauline will be anxiously waiting to hear the winning student announced when she attends the presentation ceremony in Dublin in April. Her futuristic doodle could be the one that will appear on the Google Ireland homepage for 24 hours. The winner will also receive a €5,000 college scholarship, a €10,000 technology grant for their school as well as a laptop for themselves and their teacher. To vote for Paulineâ€â„¢s entry log on to www.google.ie/doodle4google/ and click on â€Ëœcast a vote nowâ€â„¢. You will find Paulineâ€â„¢s entry on page four and entitled â€Å“Reminiscing in the 21st centuryâ€Â. [/private]
