Hynes is Best Director for Murphy plays
DRUID'S Garry Hynes has won the Best Director Award at the Theatre Awards UK, which were presented at London's historic Guildhall by the TMA (Theatrical Management Association) on Sunday October 28. The award was for her direction of the DruidMurphy trilogy of three plays by Tuam-born Tom Murphy, Conversations on a Homecoming, A Whistle in the Dark and Famine.[private] Commenting on her win, Garry Hynes said: 'I can't think of a better way to end what has been a simply wonderful time working on these three great plays by Tom Murphy with such an extraordinary ensemble. I would like to dedicate this award to Tom Murphy and to all those, on and off stage, who've helped to make DruidMurphy happen.' Theatre Awards UK is the only nationwide awards scheme to honour creative excellence and the outstanding achievement seen on and off stage throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
