Sinn Féin cumainn elect officers
SINN Féin held two Cumann AGMs recently in Ballinasloe and Athenry/Loughrea. The Ballinasloe AGM was well attended. Chair of the Noel McCann Cumann, Caoimhghin Caulfield, opened the meeting and welcomed everyone especially all the new members. Officers, Secretary, Chair and Treasurer all gave detailed reports. The highlight of the secretaryâ€â„¢s report for the year was the presidential election and the visit to the October Horse Fair by Martin McGuinness during his campaign, also the setting up of Ballinasloe SF facebook page. Caoimhghin paid tribute to deceased cumann member Liam McCann and spoke about EU Election Convention in Sligo at the end of February and the Ard Fheis in April which is taking place in Castlebar. This will be the first time that Sinn Féin has held an Ard Fheis in Connacht.[private] Cllrs Dermot Connolly and Micheal Breathnach praised the work of the Noel McCann Cumann, saying it is the driving force of Sinn Féin in Ballinasloe. EU Elections hopeful Cllr Martin Kenny from Leitrim chaired the next section of the AGM. Officers for 2013 are: Chair, C Caulfield; Vice chair, Cllr Michael Breathnach; Secretary, Sheena Breathnach; Vice Runai, Luke Mac an Bhaird; Treasurer, Gerard Oâ€â„¢Reilly; Vice Treasurer, Mike Ward, Oifigeach Gaeilge Matty Ganly and PRO Joe Desmond. Athenry Gabe Cronnelly opened the meeting as the chair of the Murt Qualter Cumann. In his review of the year Gabe was encouraged by the growth of the party in Co Galway and in particular with the Murt Qualter Cumann in Athenry doubling its membership. He looked forward to 2014 and the local elections where he hopes to stand for Sinn Fein.
