Tuam's new all-weather pitches well on their way to completion

WORK is progressing well on Tuam's long-awaited astro turf development, with hopes high the facility will be open to the public by early March. The two pitches are being installed at Tuam Celtic's grounds at Cloonthue, as part of a €180,000 investment by Galway County Council in sports facilities for the town.[private] Tuam Celtic Chairman Bart Gormley said the contract is now two weeks into a seven-week schedule and that the club was delighted that almost a year after its application for the pitches was approved by council officials, the facility was well on its way to completion. 'They moved in with the diggers and heavy machinery a fortnight ago and so far they are working through every kind of weather,' he said. 'This week will see most of the concreting and kerbing complete and we're very confident that we'll be using the pitches by early March.' A decision on the management of the facility has yet to be reached, but council officials are understood to be considering options.[/private]
