Three-year ban for Cummer woman
A YOUNG woman who foolishly drove while drunk to help out a friend was convicted of the offence by Judge Geoffrey Browne at Tuam District Court. Sinead Higgins, Bullan, Cummer was arrested on November 11 last and taken to Tuam Garda Station where a sample of her breath showed a reading of 85/100. This reading carries a mandatory three-year driving disqualification. Danny McGrath solr (defending) said his client was 26 and had never been in Court before in her life.[private] She had been living in Claremorris and was out socialising when she got a call from a friend in the Tuam area to come and collect her. She foolishly agreed. On her way she collided with some roadworks at Kilconly. A Garda coming from work arrived on the scene and it was detected that his client had alcohol consumed. He added that Ms Higgins was very embarrassed over the situation. Imposing a three-year ban and a fine of €300, Judge Browne said it was 'tough'. [/private]
