New post for former Galway manager

FORMER Galway city manager Dr John Tierney has been appointed as the Managing Director of Irish Water, the new public water utility which is being established within Bord Gáis. John will join Irish Water from Dublin City Council where he has been City Manager for over six years. A native of Terryglass in North Tipperary, John who lived in Claregalway for a number of years, has spent over 35 years in local government, having worked in nine different local authorities across the country.[private] He was involved as an official with Galway Co Council before being promoted to Galway City Manager and during his time in the county council he served as Tuam Town Manager for a short period. John takes up the position in late April and his appointment is initially for a three-year term. [/private]
