Galway students challenged to take on the takeaway

POST-PRIMARY students throughout Co Galway who are passionate about pizza, smitten by stir fries or cheered up by chips, are being invited to take part in a fun competition challenging them to cook a healthier version of their favourite takeaway meal.[private] The competition, called Takeaway My Way, is the joint initiative of St Angela's College in Sligo and Safefood (the safe and healthy eating advisory group). Now in its third year, it's open to all post-primary school students, including those in Youthreach Centres, and it aims to encourage them to cook healthily, a skill that can bring lifetime benefits, and to showcase their passion for healthy eating in a enjoyable way. Recipes online Participants can submit their recipes online at www.safefood.eu/takeaway myway or can complete and return by post the entry form received by schools. Entries must be submitted by February 22 and at the all-Ireland finals in May, 32 junior and senior finalists will have the chance to cook their dish for a panel of judges, including TV chef, Neven Maguire. Competition prizes include iPads, vouchers for cooking equipment and an exciting class trip to Neven Maguire's cookery school, enough to get any would-be chef's taste buds tingling! More details of the competition can be found at www.safefood.eu/takeawaymyway, as can the online e-recipe book featuring the tasty recipes by last year's finalists. [/private]
