Council pays tribute to late Seamus Walsh

A MEETING of Galway Co Council on Monday was adjourned briefly as a mark of respect to the late Seamus Walsh of Glenamaddy. Mr Walsh was the brother of Cllr Tiernan Walsh and was also heavily involved in community activity in the Glenamaddy area. He was a respected educationalist and a former principal of Coláiste Sheosaimh, Glenamaddy.[private] Tributes were led by Cllr Jarlath McDonagh who said Mr Walsh made a huge contribution to education and his community, and his efforts were well recognised. Cllr Jimmy McClearn said that anyone who knew Seamus Walsh had the privilege of knowing one of life's gentlemen. He would be greatly missed by all who knew him. County Manager Martina Maloney said that, on behalf of herself and her colleagues at County Hall, she wanted to offer her condolences to Cllr Walsh and the Walsh family on their sad loss. The Co Council had a lot of dealings with Mr Walsh in Glenamaddy and the community had benefited greatly from his contribution.[/private]
