Letter to the Editor – To value every human life
A chara, Every one of our lives is a profound mystery. The fact that we exist and can contemplate our existence should be a source of deep wonder to us all. The gift of life is immeasurable.[private] If we think deeply about the essence of any human life, even one that may seem to some to be the most insignificant, we should all be struck with awe, for we are not dealing with merely a simple material reality. The smallest human embryo is my brother and my sister, my father and my mother. He is my patient and my doctor. He is my servant and my king. He is humanity. Ask those who now seek most urgently to change our life-affirming laws. See if they want abortion outlawed in all but .01 per cent of cases. You will find that they don't. They are simply using an opportune tragedy to further the agenda of their own ideology. If we truly want to value women's lives then we must value every human life, every single human being, as something, as someone, sacred. Is mise le meas, Charles Byrne Droichead ÃÂtha[/private]
