A jam-packed start for Dunmore TYs

OUR Transition Year group here in Dunmore Community School are back refreshed and rejuvenated after a week on work experience. We spent the week in various businesses around the area, including garages, gyms, veterinary surgeries and pharmacies. The opening weeks of our TY year have been jam-packed. Our first trip took us to Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre where we took part in activities such as gorge walking and hiking and we stayed overnight before travelling back to Dunmore the next morning.[private] Another highlight was visiting Silver Strand in Galway on a geography field trip where we took measurements of the features on the beach. This trip was combined with a visit to the fascinating CERN science exhibition in Leisureland where we learned about the formation of the universe. Finally, we followed all this up with a relaxing trip to the cinema. Another activity we got involved in was a coaching skills workshop in Loughgeorge, which was very helpful and will come in handy in the future. We have also had speakers in to talk to the TY class from Galway Simon Community and Western Alzheimers. Both talks gave us a lot of information about these charities and how important they are to the community. Finally, we are very proud of our own TY classmate Conor O'Keeffe who has progressed to the second round of the Our School's Got Talent competition. We also congratulate TYs Katie Cassidy, Gavin Mullarkey and again Conor O'Keeffe who were part of the school choir which also progressed. That's all for now! â€â€ Sean Noone[/private]
