Galway songs cheer on the boys in green

THERE are two novelty songs, with local interest, that have been written to mark the run-up to the Euro 2012 Football Championships in June. Bring It On! Bring It On! is a brand new song written and recorded by football fans Paul Brady and Mickey Joe Harte, collectively known in this instance as The Subztitutes. Mickey Joe is well known to people in North Galway having played many times in the area and in Belclare. Meanwhile, some staff from Galway Co Council and the Galway Hospice have recorded their own song to cheer on the Irish football team. Jon Mc Ginley, Assumpta Francis, Mary McGann, Finton Donnelly, Deirdre Tully from Galway Co Council and Claire Hahessy from the Galway Hospice, who collectively are known as Mish Mash, all met up at Tuam's Sun Street Studios to record the song. With the help, patience and expertise of Kenny Ralph, the song Irish Stew was recorded. The song is a cover version of Vindaloo, which was recorded for the English football team for the World Cup finals in 1998. Jon Mc Ginley said, 'I was thinking of recording this back in 2002 but didn't get around to it and have had to wait ten years to get the chance again. But it was worth the wait, we had great fun recording it and would like to thank Kenny for his saint-like patience.' All monies raised from the song will go to The Galway Hospice Foundation. Both songs are now available to download from iTunes.
