Tuam BBQ plans to raise further funds for Tuam Cancer Care
By SIOBHÃÂN HOLLIMAN IN THE region of €60,000 has been raised for Tuam Cancer Care through the annual barbeque night at the Man of Aran pub in Tuam. This year's event, its sixth, takes place on Thursday, May 3 and the organisers are hoping for a successful night that will help the services and supports offered to local cancer sufferers and their families.[private] The fundraising group comprises builders, publicans, bakers, musicians and others who join together to offer a night of food and fun. The event's celebrity chefs of Pat Hession, Martin O'Loughlin, Tony McLoughlin and Gerry Holian have the task of cooking on the night. Dinner will be followed by plenty of music, singing and craic with well-known artists such as Matt Keane, Gary Quinn, Colm Naughton, Jive Buddies and Sheebeen to keep the music flowing. Corofin's talented singer Donna Higgins, who wowed everyone at the recent West's Got Talent competition, will make her debut appearance at the event. One of the items to be auctioned on the night is a pair of breeches belonging to local jockey Leigh Roche, who rides for the Dermot Weld yard. The breeches will be signed by a number of leading Irish jockeys. One of the organisers, Paul Keating, says this will be the sixth year of the event and hopes people will pop in for some tasty food, great music and plenty of craic. 'We are very grateful to our sponsors, who year after year support this worthy cause,' he said. Food will be served from 6 pm and tickets priced €20 are available on the door.[/private]
