WERS objects to court costs
'THERE'S money in dirt,' quipped Judge Geoffrey Browne when dealing with a case taken against Tuam-based WERS Waste. The Court was told that Mayo Co Council handles all the administrative work for waste contractors in Connacht and they were seeking to prosecute WERS for non-conformance. [private] The company had not strictly adhered to the terms of its permit by not providing required information. James Glynn solr (defending) pleaded that the company had been in business for 20 years and employed over 70 people. The issue in question was simply an oversight but a conviction would have implications. He also explained that his clients had an issue with the costs being claimed by Mayo Co Council which were €750. The maximum fine is €3,000. Judge Browne said that if the company made a donation of €250 to the Saint Vincent de Paul he would not record a conviction. However, he had no choice but to award the costs asked for. [/private]
