Meeting on closure of C'dulla Garda Station
THERE was a public meeting in Corrandulla last night (Monday) to discuss the decision to close the local Garda Station. The meeting was chaired by Cllr Mary Hoade, and in attendance were Supt Marie Skehill, Sgt Joe Cosgrove, Corofin, Sgt Frank Broderick, Headford, and Sgt John O'Brien, Loughgeorge. [private] Supt Skehill informed the meeting that Corrandulla Station will definitely be closing but she was not yet sure of the date. It would have cost €280,000 to refurbish the existing station. The decision was made that policing of area will now be divided, with 30 of the townlands coming under the Headford area, four will go into Corofin, and the remainder in Annaghdown and Corrandulla will be policed by Loughgeorge. Community Garda Jarlath Burke (Annagh/Corr) was thanked by Cllr Hoade for the work he has been doing in the area. People had their say at the meeting and the feeling was expressed that the local community very much want a visible Garda presence in the area, such as patrol car. The new division of policing will be put on display in public places in Corrandulla and Annaghdown. Cllr Hoade said she is personally disappointed to see the station closing but she is pleased that it is now clear how the area will be policed. She has worked with other stations in the area to ensure there is adequate cover. A flyer will shortly be sent out in the post indicating how each area will be policed. [/private]
