Cost of Ballyforan, Ballinamore Bridge roadworks queried
DISQUIET is being expressed by some residents in the Ballyforan, Ballinamore Bridge area over what is being seen as the exorbitant cost involved in carrying out relatively minor road improvements in the area. One local resident told The Herald that they were delighted when they heard that €250,000 has been allocated towards works on a three kilometre stretch of road that is in need of attention. [private] However, when works began this Monday morning they were puzzled when informed that the €250,000 would only cover work on a one-kilometre stretch. Local residents are not happy at what they see as the exorbitant costs involved in bringing this small stretch of road up to standard. 'Talk about Celtic Tiger costs. This strikes me as ridiculous. Surely, in this day and age, we should be getting better value for money. We will be asking our area representatives what is going on and whether it will now take another half a million euro to complete the other two kilometres?' a caller to The Herald said. [/private]
