Celebrity Jigs and Reels on Sunday night
THE Tuam Trad Festival fundraiser, Celebrity Jigs and Reels, postponed last week, will now take place on Sunday (September 4) at Geoghegan's, High Street, Tuam. Doors will be opening at 8pm and the organisers say a night of great entertainment will be on offer with a host of local celebrities taking part.[private] All competitors have taken six weeks of training under Allâ€â€œIreland champion dancers Gerard Butler, Diarmuid Meade and JJ McDonnell and each competitor will dance their own three-minute routine. A busking fundraiser will also take place in town on Saturday (September 3) to get everyone in the mood for the big night. All of the proceeds will go towards funding Tuam Trad Festival, which takes place on the weekend of September 16, 17 and 18. Also on that weekend will be Kiddies Day on Sunday with Kids Party Club and Trad Disco, an art exhibition with Donegal artist Clare Toland at Eason's Café, and a Farmers Market will be at Abbey Trinity. Singer Sean Keane will open the Festival on Friday night, September 16 in The Square along with other well-known musicians from the Trad scene and Tuam group RÃÂRá. Workshops in Traditional Music instruments by leading musicians will also take place at the Mercy Convent Primary School, Dublin Road. The organisers are asking all the community to invite friends and relations to visit Tuam for the weekend of the festival. The committee, in conjunction with Tuam Chamber of Commerce, will also have a competition for all businesses in the town with prizes for the best window displays with an Irish theme.
