Altar beside Kilbannon round tower

THE blessing of an altar that has been built in the shadow of the historic round tower at Kilbannon Cemetery will take place during the annual cemetery Mass there this Sunday at 6 pm. The new altar was constructed by a number of local people and it is a stone structure with a polished marble top, which has two recessed areas to accommodate candleholders. The circular altar is made in a style similar to the round tower and an area up to the round town has been covered in cement and paving stones for the celebrants to stand on while celebrating outdoor Mass. The altar is facing the new cemetery at the rear of the round tower in Kilbannon and cross has also been affixed to the round tower behind the altar. The chief celebrant of the Mass on Sunday evening will be Fr Michael Kenny PP.
