New Irish Times editor started career in Tuam
THEâ€Ë†newly-appointed editor of The Irish Times, Kevin O'Sullivan, started his journalistic career with The Tuam Herald. Assigned to this paper as an intern during his journalism course at DCU, his talent was recognised by the then editor, Jarlath P Burke, who offered him a job when a vacancy arose. He subsequently worked with the Connacht Tribune in Galway before moving to the Times, where he held various positions of increasing seniority before getting the top job last Thursday. Tuam was vital in another way to Kevin: he met his wife, Geraldine Canavan, here. She is daughter of the late Jarlath MRCVS and Mary Canavan. They have three children. With Gerry O'Regan editor of the Irish Independent, the Herald is in the unique position of having its graduates editing the two most important papers in the country.
