New development contributions welcomed

A NEW scheme of development contributions has been agree on by Galway Co Council.[private] The scheme has been welcomed by Cllr Sean Canney who has fought for a change in the scheme for some time. The new scheme will provide for the following: Ã¢€Â¢ Reduction of 30 per cent on the Development Charge for Commercial Developments. Ã¢€Â¢ Reduction of 10 per cent on the Development Charge for Residential Developments Ã¢€Â¢ An increase of Ã¢â€šÂ¬10,000 for applications for Telecommunications masts. 'The revised charges were required to provide a stimulus for businesses in these difficult times and hopefully will encourage businesses to apply for planning permission for commercial buildings. 'The reduction in the residential charge is also an encouragement to individuals who wish to build their own homes,' Cllr Canney said. Cllr Canny has served on the working group which made the recommendation to the council and these were approved at a meeting of Galway Co Council on Friday December 17.[/private]
