Fishing competition to launch Milltown's Cloondrom Lake project
A SPECIAL Mass was said on Sunday afternoon (October 24) to mark the official launch of Milltown's latest community enhancement initiative, Cloondrom Lake. The lake has been transformed into a social amenity, complete with fishing stands, picnic and parking areas and a display board outlining the flora and fauna of the location. Addressing those gathered for Mass on the lake shore on Sunday, Milltown PP Fr JJ Cribbin congratulated all who were involved in developing this fine amenity for the community. He also reminded those gathered there that many of their ancestors cut turf in the surrounding bog and fished Cloondrom Lake during what were often difficult times. He asked the congregation to remember these people in their prayers during the Mass. He also pointed out the close association between fishing and Christianity. Jesus' first three disciples, Peter, John and James, were fishermen and had in fact been out fishing when Jesus called on them to follow him. 'We ask God's blessing on this undertaking and to bless all who fish the lake,' he said, wishing all who came there many hours of pleasure and contentment. A fishing competition was held on Sunday morning as part of the opening ceremonies.
