Belmont NS did well in cross-country
BELMONT National School took part in the Primary Schools Cross Country at the beginning of the month in Renmore, Galway. Over 800 children took part from all over Galway city and county. Aoife Sheehy ran the 800m 3rd-4th class race and comfortably led the field of 176 runners all the way into the finishing tunnel where she was just piipped for the gold medal. This was a wonderful achievement by Aoife as this was her first ever cross country race. Belmont School are extremely proud of her. She and Liam Costello who ran the 5th/6th class 1000m boys race went on to represent their school at the Connacht Schools in Sligo at the weekend. Terence Godwin came 43rd out of a field of 208 in the 3rd/4th class boys 800m. This was Terence's first taste of cross country running â€â€ he will be young enough again next year for this age category so watch this space this time next year! Credit must be given to all the children who took part and did their school proud on the day. Well done to Oisin Burke,Ciaron Devlin, Grace O'Donnell, Oisin Donnellan, Roisin Godwin, Grace Sheridan, Peter Coyne, Eddie Sheridan and Shane Donnellan. â€Â¢ Pictured at left are the young athletes of Belmont NS.
