Sweet success for Tuam-Cortoon ladies

Connacht Ladies Football President Liam McDonagh presents the cup to Mary Flaherty, Tuam-Cortoon captain.

TUAM-CORTOON made hard work of their early dominance last Saturday but they blazed a trail of glory in the second half to be crowned Connacht Junior Football Champions for the first time in 11 years.

Second half goals for Rebecca Mongan and Leonie Fleming ensured the Galway side’s efforts didn’t go to waste as they huffed and puffed with the wind in the first half only to lead by two at the change of ends.

While playing second fiddle, St. Mary’s Tulsk were threatening and failed to convert chances that would have asked more out of Michael Hogan’s outfit.  But 1-2 in the opening stages of the second half ensured Tuam-Cortoon the result and set up a home All-Ireland semi-final in three weeks.
