Jubilation after long-awaited victory in Croke Park.

Galway promoted as champions

A DIVISION 2 title, another welcome piece silverware and the end of a 16-year wait for a victory at Croke Park were some of the headlines to emerge from Galway’s well-meritted two-point win over Kildare on Sunday afternoon.
Both counties will ply their trade in the top flight of the National Football League next season after Galway ended a six-year absence and Kildare arrested their slide to earn successive promotions.
Many observers believed a beef-up Kildare selection would carry the day. Instead, however, it was Galway’s second win over their Leinster county in the space of a week as the Lilywhites losing streak in the fixture has now reached 32 years.
